Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution: The Extended Version

I am sure that most, if not all of the people, are aware of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and the image showing a man evolving from an ape towards a fully grown man - also known as the homo sapiens. But as I was searching through google images I came across a parody of Darwin's theory.

This image really grabbed my attention, because if you think about it the parody of the original image is actually telling the truth. Our current generation has grown so lazy and dependent on fastfood and technology that the people have evolved into a man such as the one on the very right of the picture. It is indeed insulting to us, but the picture speaks of the truth. Our specie used to be extremely productive and physically fit creatures that possess the discipline in order to live a long life. But as of now, most of the people have grown sluggish. All we do nowadays is rely on technology, relying too much that we begin to think that we cannot function properly without it. This is the sad truth and once we are exposed to danger, we are scared for our lives because we are no longer fit enough to survive or fight back like how our ancestors used to be.

As the image speaks for itself, I do agree about the truth it tells us. I am embarrassed about our generation's current situation but at the same time I am happy that some people are aware enough to show it through this image parody of Darwin's theory of evolution. Everyone should see this image so that they can start to contemplate and reflect about their current lives; so that they can regain their dignity as human beings worthy of being the newest and most current generation of our ancestors. Anyway, it is never too late to undo the bad that we have done to ourselves. We can always remedy our dependence on technology and laziness. It is never too late to change back to how we used to be, like our ancestors who used to be the fittest of all survivors in the wild. It's time for us to bring back the good old days.

"Carrie: You Will Know Her Name"

If you happen to be an avid movie watcher or at least a sucker for horror movies, then you would know that the recent Carrie movie starring Chloe Grace Moretz is actually just a remake of the 1976 Carrie. The latest remake is based on the novel written by Stephen King and was directed by Kimberly Peirce. According to some background information I gathered online and from its synposis, Carrie is a theatrical horror film about a highschool senior that has been labeled as an outcast by her schoolmates. Later in the film, Carrie realizes that she has telekinetic powers and after being pushed too far and mistreated to inhumanely during their prom night, she commits one of the greatest and most horrific massacre, ever. From the trailer itself, you can see how realistic it was made, making the movie too believable that it can indeed happen in real life.

Along with the trailer, the movie company actually created a gimmick to convince the people to watch Carrie. And honestly, it is one of the best gimmicks ever made to advertise a movie - not just posters nor trailers but a real life event. In this link you will be directed to a short clip showing a telekinetic prank by a normal-looking teenage girl that was directed to act like she discovered that she has telekinetic powers. When her drink was accidentally spilled by a man in the coffee shop it angered her and made her unleash her "telekinetic powers" on him, making him violently fly to the top of a wall and fall down instantaneously. After, the tables and chairs began to rapidly move away from her as she motioned her hands outwards. Then finally, all the picture on the wall, the books on the shelves and what-else began falling and flying straight to the ground. All the customers inside the coffee shop were shocked and disturbed by the event because those things never really happen in real life - at least that's what we think. At the first few minutes of the video it shows how the whole gimmick was planned and brought  to life. Indeed, this form of advertisement that the company created disturbed and traumatized the people in the coffee shop, but that was the whole point for the gimmick. They wanted to entice the people to watch a movie that will make them crawl to the safest part of their chairs in retreat while watching one of the greatest horror movies ever remade.

I do have a confession though, I am a huge Chloe Moretz fan and that is one of the many reasons why I want to see this film. Although I am a wimp when it comes to scary movies, there's just something about horror films that lures me and traps me for an hour or two, wanting to escape and get the hell out but at the same time leaves me glued to my chair paralyzed by fear. I have watched a couple of movies starring Chloe Moretz and I must admit they are all awesome. Especially Kickass 1 & 2 and her first horror/thriller movie Let Me In. I highly recommend that you watch them all. And since Chloe Moretz has convinced me more than enough of her pure talent as an actress, I'm excited to watch her newest movie Carrie and hope you all will too. Surely, her latest movie will haunt you with nightmares for a few days or weeks and leave you squirming and scared from nighttime 'till dawn - all of which are signs and symptoms that you have watched a perfectly great horror movie and truly had your money's worth. After watching the movie you will know her name, not just for a few hours but instead it will be embedded in your memories, for a long long time.

Thought Catalog: A Compilation of Everything You Need to Know and Want to Know

Thoughtcatalog.com: the site that enticed me like no other. Thoughcatalog was founded on the year 2010 by Chris Lavergne and is said to be an online magazine, but for me it is the blog/website that really caught my attention. The said online magazine is composed of millions of entries from bloggers that shares their thoughts or personal experiences on certain topics like love, life lessons, harsh truths, and even the most random things you could think of. Unlike other websites or blogs such as pinterest and 9gag, I have to admit thoughtcatalog is my favorite. The moment I open a new tab in my browser, it’s usually thoughtcatalog. The one thing that this blog has that no other blogs or websites possess is the diversity and relatability of its content. Since blogs are usually created by one person each or most sites such as 9gag focuses on one theme - to make people 'gag' - after a while they get boring and uninteresting. But since thoughtcatalog is a compilation of thoughts from different bloggers with the broadest range of topics, it would indeed be the last blog/site standing.

Each thought has its own specific topic and admittedly after being a constant reader from 9gag and pinterest before and thoughtcatalog now, I can honestly say that thoughtcatalog is not just a mere time-killer or a mood-lifter but it is an eye-opening site. 9gag in honest contradiction, it rarely teaches me anything. It is mostly just a time-killer and a good laugh from time to time. It doesn't make me any smarter or wiser than I currently am now. Pinterest as another contradiction is just a site composed of compilation of pictures organized in dashboards and nowadays is flooded with mostly food recipes. Yes, pinterest can teach me how to be a good cook but nothing more. With thoughtcatalog it’s different. It allows me to reflect on my life - the posts or the thoughts of the bloggers are never dull or useless. Each and every one of the posted thoughts either gives me realizations or leaves me reflecting on certain things and issues concerning my own life. Some examples of posts that really made me pause for a few minutes (sometimes even hours or days) and reflect on my life would be:

Based on the titles itself I was already interested to read them, not just to kill time but because they contain thoughts that can make me a better person (as the title of the first link states) and give me epiphanies that will motivate me to make a change for the good. With the seriousness aside, this site is also hilarious, relatable, inspirational, and just hands down awesome. Here are other few examples; the titles alone will speak for themselves:

Even though every single one of us thinks differently and have contradicting interests, thoughtcatalog will surely be a site that anyone will love due to the diversity of each story, list, thought, and anecdote that have been compiled. With thoughtcatalog there will never be a dull thought in site, and that is why I love it – I can really relate to the thoughts of the bloggers and their anecdotes teaches me things that I would have never known or experienced had I not read about them. Since the blog/website is composed from the varying subjects or thoughts from a wide range of bloggers, I will never grow tired of visiting thoughtcatalog and at the same time it because it teaches me everything I need to know and want to know about life: from love and loss, all the way to the inconvenient truths of life.

“If you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own.”

The lyrics of the song Give a Little Love by Noah and the Whale, accompanied by the video posted by TheCorpfa, shares a message that touches the deepest parts of one’s heart. The video focuses on a young boy that chose to make a difference, to emanate kindness and make the world a better place. In the video, it values how a simple act of kindness can inspire others to show compassion to others as well. As we experience an act of kindness from someone, or even see someone experience kindness from a distance, it ignites a fire in our hearts. It gives us the sense of wanting to give back to others for the kindness we witnessed or received.

Imagine an endless line of standing dominos. When a single domino is touched even just slightly, it falls forward to hit the next domino in front and the next domino after that and the next domino after that and so on, endlessly.  Now, imagine that small touch to the first domino to be an act of kindness, as the domino is touched it falls forward, touching the next domino, and that domino touching the next domino and so on. Next, imagine those dominos to be our hearts, our emotions. When we feel or experience even the slightest touch or kindness in our heart, it gives us a warm feeling inside. And that warmth ignites our heart to want to touch the hearts of others too, to show kindness to them after experiencing kindness ourselves. And that person we show kindness to also experiences the warmth in their hearts and the want to share the warmth to others as well, thus showing kindness to the people around them. And that is how the video explained how kindness works, through a domino effect but in a much more complex reality.

The way the video conveyed the value of kindness, in my opinion is really effective. It showed kindness, not through just one simple act, but in a chain or a cycle: Where one person’s kindness affects another person’s life to show kindness themselves, regardless of whether those people know each other or not. Together with that, without even knowing it, whenever we do a good deed towards someone, other people are actually watching us. That is why it is important to always be kind to others, because we never really know who is watching us - we might even change the life of that person by inspiring him to become a better man. It also shows that there is still faith for the humanity. There are still people out there who choose to touch the lives of others through simple deeds in order to make the world a better place. If only each and every one of us do a little deed to the people around us, I believe that our world will truly be a better place.

As I wrote in my title "If you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own." - If you want to see a change in this world, be the change. And who knows, in the long run, maybe the change you show to others will be the change you will see in the world.

Be kind to others. Be the change you want to see. After all, there is nothing to lose from it, there is only much more to gain.

Mobile Texting: A Disconnecting Connection

Mobile texting: A technology that has been created for the convenience of communication. But does it really benefit the people? In an article by Lauren Suval, she mentioned that texting hinders the social skills of people. Although texting is usually viewed on a positive note - making communication with anyone easier, Lauren talks about the negative appeal of technology towards the human psychological behaviour. Instead of spending quality time together, some choose to retreat to just mere texting as the main source of communication. At the same time, she mentions that texting ruins their psychological well-being wherein it diminishes their social skills, in terms of character and attitude. The person that chooses to text, over a personal get-together was seen to have a lower self-esteem. Indeed, people choose to text for convenience, but the side-effect it possesses is the destruction or the obstruction of their personal social lives.

Mentioned in Suval's post, she talks of a psychologist named Sherry Turkle that said, “our technological advances are redefining human connection.” After reading her message, I do feel a slight disappointment, not because she is bashing on texting, but because she’s right. The creation of texting has indeed affected everyone’s psychological behaviour: the way they act and at the most, their personality.

Before reading this article, I have to admit that I would often choose texting over meeting up with my friends, again, because of convenience - it makes things much easier in relationships - and at the same time it gives me more confidence in keeping the conversations flowing. But Lauren and Sherry’s notion really got to me. Texting did make my character weak. It made me detest personal confrontations as well as on-the-spot conversations with a "crush" or acquaintance. I’m happy that I came across this article, because it made realize that texting can never replace any friendly or intimate bonding session with anyone in particular. And as Lauren’s message is trying to convey, we should pause our connection with technology even just for a while and improve our life and attitude by spending quality time with the person or people themselves rather than through the means of technology.

After all, texting does not only connect people through means of convenience, but disconnects them at a personal level - the level that I suppose everyone prefers to possess with those that are dear to them.
